Two responsibilities of a US Representative are to write laws and to provide oversight of the Executive branch.  Thaddeus G. McCotter is the incumbent Representative of Michigan's 11th district and someone needs to tell him that he is not doing his job.  That's why I'm here.

My name is Erik Shelley and I am running for Congress because apparently it is the only way I am going to be able to ask our Representative a basic question:  "If the President doesn't have to follow the laws you write and doesn't have to answer your questions, then why are you in Washington, DC?"  I have called his offices.  I have written his offices.  I have visted his offices.  I have petitioned his offices.  I have yet to receive an answer to this question.

On its face, impeachment may seem an extreme measure with little benefit since George W. Bush has so little time left in office.  But our government is built on the strong foundation of our Constitution.  Moving forward, we must decide what kind of government we are going to live under.  At this moment in history, only impeachment will get to the truth and repair the damage, real or perceived, that has been done to the constitution over the past 7 and a half years.  How can we ever trust our government if we cannot trust the foundation upon which it is built?  Only impeachment will clear away the debris, butress the foundation and restore our faith in government as Thomas Jefferson intended.

Fun with McCotter

Shelley Speaks

If Barak Obama should be elected President, will we give him the right to pick and choose which parts of the law he will obey?  Will we allow him to use the Justice department to dispatch his political opponents?  Will we give him the power to tap phones?  Will we allow his cabinet members to avoid questioning, even to the point of disregarding a contempt of Congress citation?  If McCotter fails to act now, he will do just that.

I have asked him to take action to no avail.  So now I appeal to you, the people of Michigan's 11th district and ask for your support.  Together, we can apply pressure to our Congressman to act before it actually is too late.  If McCotter wants to continue to serve as our Representative in Washington, he must impeach the President or explain to us, his constituents, why he won't.

Thank you.

Erik Shelley

it is complete,
it is total.

I will not stand by

and be an idle spectator
to the diminution,
the subversion
the destruction

of the Constitution."
